Blood Trails

Release Date: March 13, 2007

Tag Line: You can't outride death.

Description: A couple attempting to rekindle their romance finds that happiness sometimes comes at the ultimate price in director Robert Krause's bloody tale of obsession and revenge. Anne (Rebecca Palmer) has been unfaithful to her boyfriend Michael (Tom Frederic), but now physical lust has taken a backseat to true love, and the cheating girlfriend is looking to make up for her careless indiscretion. As a means of making amends, Anne takes Michael on a trip into the wilderness in hopes that a little time alone will allow the couple to move past their problems. The only problem now is that the man Anne cheated with (Ben Price) wants her all to himself, and he's willing to kill anyone—especially Michael—who stands in his way. As the sun goes down over the forest landscape, what was once a trip designed to keep the flames of passion alive becomes a harrowing battle for survival against a man who will stop at nothing to prove his undying love.

Running time: 87 minutes

Rating: R (for bloody violence, language, and some sexuality)

Scoop Review

Plot: A mountain biker and her boyfriend venture off to the mountains to get their relationship and heads together. They soon encounter a mysterious biker and the chase for life begins.

Acting: The performances by all parties were very fitting to the mood and style of this movie. Actually, there were some situations (the logger’s encounter, for example) where the character direction was very good.

Special Effects: The gore factor is good here, my friends. The filming and special effects of the “gore” sequences were very nicely shot. I squirmed quite a few times in discomfort.

Keep an Eye Out For. . .

  • The flying bicycle sprocket.
  • The cross that always saves.

The Straight Scoop: This is a suspenseful movie. I enjoyed every tense second. There were a few issues that I had, though: 1.) The flying sprocket. I won’t go into detail, but it was a bit of a stretch for me; 2.) No blood on the crush-n-run bike path. (I have personally bled on this material, and you can not make it disappear that easily without a lot of work. Why was I bleeding, you ask? Never mind.); 3.) The “screaming while riding through the mountains” scenes were a bit overzealous in their attempt to display the emotion of our heroine. These actually become minor issues because for the rest of the movie, you’re on a white-knuckle ride. The filming is nicely done, and the scenery is green and sets the right sense of being lost in a wilderness. You’ll be on the edge of your bike seat for the entire movie—but really, why are you watching a movie while riding your bike?

Recommendation: Don’t let the DVD box or the tags on this fool you. It has “slasher movie” written all over it, but it’s more than that. This is a suspenseful film with a bloodthirsty killer who knows the mountains like his own back yard. You won’t lose anything renting this movie, except a little sleep, and your girlfriend will most likely not go on any long biking trips in the mountains for a while. The only reason this didn’t become a theatrical release, in my opinion, is that mountain biking is not a big lure to get people into the theaters.
