Release Date: March 27, 2007 Tag Line: Love starts on “action.” Description: Reginald “Cool” Coolidge is a struggling actor, fed up with taking stereotypical African-American roles and waiting for his big break in a legitimate production. Until this time comes, he works at his mother’s boyfriend’s gas station to repay him for covering his college tuition. One day at the station, his ex-fiancée—and one true love—reappears at the pumps after three years of silence. Cool discovers that it is 36 hours until her wedding to a local lawyer. As Cool embarks on last-ditch attempts to win her back, he takes on the biggest “role” of his life . . . love. Running time: 97 minutes Rating: R (For language) Scoop ReviewPlot: This is more than just a love story. It’s a smart, funny drama that works on a number of different levels. The film is even able to broach the subject of racial stereotypes in a matter-of-fact, thought-provoking way, and then weave that subject seamlessly into the storyline without making it the center of attention. This plot is extremely engaging because everybody, regardless of race, color, or nationality, can relate to it. Acting: Top-notch across the board. Even those with lesser roles contribute in a positive way to the overall framework of the film. This movie is very well cast, starting with the lead, Dorian Missick. He’s ultimately the key to its success, because you’ll find yourself connecting with his character and riding the highs and lows of his story right along with him. Zoe Saldana also does an excellent job, as does Hill Harper. Kudos all around. Special Effects: Not applicable Ridiculous Dialogue Samples:

The Straight Scoop: Good, good stuff. Everything about this movie disarms you and sucks you in. I have a soft spot for films that are simply about life, about the complexities, pitfalls, and obstacles that everybody has to face. Although I usually have to be dragged kicking and screaming to watch anything that even remotely resembles a “chick flick,” if every romantic comedy delivered the goods like this one, I’d watch them all. Recommendation: This is a sleeper pick. If you’re looking for a funny, engaging, heartfelt drama that’s not cloying or overbearing, rent this. This is a case of art imitating life almost perfectly.
